Learn about AMD's next-gen Ryzen 9000-series processors.
AMD has unveiled the Ryzen 9000-series at Computex 2024, setting a new standard for desktop processors. These new chips are an upgrade from the Ryzen 7000-series launched in 2022 and bring about a 15% speed increase over previous models.
Built on the advanced Zen 5 architecture, the Ryzen 9000 series improves on the older Zen 4 cores. This upgrade doubles the instruction bandwidth, which means the processors can handle tasks faster and more efficiently, especially in demanding applications like gaming and content creation.
The processors also achieve a 16% increase in instructions per clock, enhancing overall computing performance. Energy efficiency is another highlight, with the Ryzen 9 9900X using about 50W less power than its predecessor, the Ryzen 9 7900X.
AMD plans to release these processors in July 2024, but they haven't shared pricing yet. The initial lineup doesn't include any 3D V-Cache variants or a Ryzen 9800X model, but AMD hints that these could be introduced later or early next year.
Despite many upgrades, the Ryzen 9000-series doesn't include a dedicated neural processing unit (NPU). This means for AI tasks, users will need to rely on their graphics cards. However, the new processors do offer improved AI performance through AI and AVX512 support.
