Autograph 2025.1 brings a revamped interface, new 3D tools, better compatibility with DaVinci Resolve and After Effects, and introduces a free Starter edition for motion design and VFX work.

Left Angle has launched Autograph 2025.1, the latest version of its motion design and visual effects software. The update brings a redesigned interface, new 3D tools, better compatibility with other programs, and new pricing options, including a free version.

Autograph first launched in 2023 as an alternative to After Effects, with a layer-based timeline and built-in tools for working with 3D assets. It’s designed to make complex tasks easier, using a system of “Generators” and “Modifiers” that skips the need for node graphs or scripting.

The 2025 update improves the interface and workflow. A new Inspector panel replaces the old Properties panel, making it easier to adjust settings. Timelines are now separate for each viewer, so you can play back multiple compositions at once—like comparing an intro and outro.

In 3D, Autograph now supports extruding text and shapes, letting you turn vector logos into 3D objects. There are new tools for creating 3D primitives and editing materials directly in the timeline. You can also select 3D layers in the viewport by clicking or dragging a selection box.

The software now works better with other programs, too. A new Autograph Live Link plugin lets you use Autograph projects inside DaVinci Resolve or other OpenFX-compatible apps. Changes made in Autograph update in real time, and you can even animate parameters directly in Resolve. There’s also a new importer for After Effects projects, which converts features like animations, text, and shapes into Autograph. To use it, you need an active After Effects license installed on the same computer.

Left Angle has also introduced a free version called Autograph Starter. It’s great for trying out the software or working on smaller projects. You can use it commercially, but there are limits: only two projects at a time, 1080p resolution, and some features are watermarked. Paid versions of Autograph have gotten cheaper, too. A perpetual license for Autograph Creator now costs $299, with rentals starting at $25/month. Autograph Studio, for bigger teams, is $599 for a perpetual license or $39/month.

With these updates, Autograph 2025.1 offers powerful tools for motion design and VFX at a lower cost. It’s easier to use than ever, with features that make it a real competitor to After Effects.
