Autodesk's Project Bernini uses AI to quickly create 3D models from different types of input, changing how we design.
Autodesk has just launched Project Bernini, an innovative AI model that creates 3D models from various inputs like text, images, point clouds, and voxels.
Project Bernini builds on previous research from Autodesk's AI Lab, particularly their Make-A-Shape project. It's trained on a massive database of 10 million shapes, including everything from CAD models to natural forms. This broad training base allows it to generate a wide range of 3D objects.
For now, Autodesk is focusing on using Project Bernini to make practical, hard-surface objects. Examples from their demonstrations include everyday items like chairs, spatulas, and pitchers. These are simple but useful objects in various industries such as architecture, product design, and entertainment.
However, Project Bernini is still in the experimental stage. It’s not available for public use yet, and Autodesk hasn’t shared plans about when it will be released or how it will be integrated into their existing products. They did show that it works with 3ds Max, suggesting that it might be used alongside other Autodesk software in the future.
Autodesk believes that as they refine Project Bernini and train it on more complex datasets, it will be able to handle more intricate and detailed designs, like buildings, cars, and game characters.
