Explore how iCity 1.0, a new Blender add-on, makes building detailed 3D cities faster and more intuitive than ever.
iCity 1.0 is a new tool for Blender that makes creating 3D cities simple. Created by Hothifa Smair, an architecture student and tool developer, iCity is in its beta phase and sells for $75. It's designed for artists and people who do architectural visualization.
With iCity, you can draw roads and city block outlines, and the tool fills them with 3D buildings from a ready-made library. This means you can quickly build up a city without having to model each building yourself.
You can easily adjust your city layout by moving roads directly in the viewport. iCity will automatically update the buildings to match the new road network. The tool lets you change building heights, sizes, and even turn a block into a park.
iCity includes 20 types of buildings, from skyscrapers to smaller apartment blocks. You can also add trees, cars, street lights, and small details like fallen leaves and puddles to make the city look more realistic.
For handling more complex scenes, iCity offers a proxy mode. This mode uses simpler, untextured models to help the software run faster when you're working on big projects.
iCity is compatible with Blender 4.1 and really opens up new possibilities for anyone interested in 3D modeling. Whether you're crafting detailed cities for a video game, setting up scenes for a film, or planning architectural projects, iCity makes the whole process a lot easier and more enjoyable.
